Morocco Equity Markets | 13 Oct 2015: MASI Index 0.71% lower, MADEX Index 0.76% lower, Market cap drops US$346 million
Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa —Casablanca Stock Exchange backed to negative territory after two days in the positive region. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) edged down by 0.71 percent to end at 8,989 points (with a year-to-date performance to -6.56 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 452.870 billion (a decrease of MAD 3.32 billion or US$346 million relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 456.191 billion). The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 74.183 million compared to MAD 54,829 million recorded at previous trading session.
In the same positive sentiment, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX Index) closed at 7,340.06 points (sagged by 0.76 percent compared to previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index dropped 0.33 percent to close at 7,808.68 points (-11.47 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index plunged by 0.68 percent to end at 7,546.56 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -6.38 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Transport, Real Estate and Pharmaceutical Industry sector indices gained 1.25 percent, 1.03 percent and 0.23 percent respectively. On the other hand, Holding Companies sector index (dropped 6.00 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -22.31 percent), Forestry & Paper sector index (went down by 5.95 percent to end at -46.07 percent year-to-date return) and Electrical & Electronic sector index (crashed by 2.32 percent to end at 4,142.86 levels).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were BMCI added 6.00 percent to close at MAD 583.00 and HPS gained 4.56 percent to end at MAD 434.95. MAGHREB OXYGENE also soared by 3.09 percent or MAD 3.00 with closing price of MAD 100.00 as well as DOUJA ADDOHA jumped by 2.54 percent to end at MAD 24.60. On the laggards side, JET CONTRACTORS and ALLIANCES fell by 9.99 percent (to settle at MAD 181.20) and lost 7.53 percent (to trade at MAD 30.21) respectively. STOKVIS AFRIQUE and DELTA HOLDINGS also plunged by 6.00 percent (with closing price of MAD 22.56) and dropped 6.00 percent (to settle at MAD 23.03) respectively.
